Dear Chamber Member,

As a life long member of the Rockcastle County community, a single parent, a worker and a small business owner, nothing is more important and apparent to the future of our community than the focus and direction of our county leadership. We are at a critical time of decision making. Decisions that must preserve our traditions while creating unique opportunities for growth and economic stability. The Rockcastle County Chamber of Commerce is central to our county's future.

We need to focus our attention to the basics of county and city government. Resources must be spent on creating and maintaining the infrastructures of a small rural community. This should be done by more than reacting to the immediate problems but by providing visionary leadership and long range planning for growth and maintenance of our county’s water system, streets, security lights, sewage system, sidewalks, and storm drainage just to name a few. We can never truly move our focus toward needed economic development until we have a modern and secure infrastructure.

While economic growth is vital to our county’s future, growth without planning will be unsuccessful. We need to recognize and support our existing economic opportunities and not just be waiting on big industry to move in. Rockcastle County currently has the ingredients necessary to have quality economic growth: A state of the art healthcare system, tourism, our geographic location, high quality education system, local pride and above all our people. We are ready for growth! The Rockcastle Chamber should and will work daily to effectively recognize, utilize and expand these resources to enhance economic opportunities for our county. We will also work with our neighboring counties to bring more jobs and opportunities to our region. Such regional economic development will have far reaching benefits for our citizens and local economic growth efforts.

The Members of the Chamber of Commerce must have a personal commitment to unify all stakeholders in a common set of goals for county improvements. We have to work together for the good of all and the Chamber of Commerce should be seen, and viewed, as the leaders in all improvement conversations and settings. We should and will work in a progressive manner to develop unity toward a set of common goals that will improve the quality of life in our community.

The day-to-day operations are essential to the quality of life we experience, and all citizens have the right to expect that their tax dollars will be spent in a cost-effective manner. The Chamber will work directly with the citizens to make Rockcastle County the best place to live and raise a family. Now is the time for our community to move forward. Let’s stop talking about a better Rockcastle County and start making it happen!

 Sincerely,

Jerry Pensol, Chamber President
